About
My teaching focuses on deep fundamentals and first principals reasoning in order to give students the ability to succeed in a myriad of career paths. In bassoon I do a lot of reed making, fundamentals, and practice skills like note reading and iteration. I love working on excerpts because they push your fundamentals the greatest level of detail.At the same time, I balance artistic work on creativity, expression, and developing emotional resonance through solo work and awareness of the larger artistic picture.

I have previously taught at DePaul University, and played with orchestras including the Detroit Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Milwaukee Symphony, Grant Park Orchestra, New Orleans Philharmonic, Houston Grand Opera, and Chicago Civic Orchestra.
I studied Soundpainting with Walter Thompson and Eric Chapelle, and have studied bassoon with George Sakakeeny at Oberlin, Bill Buchman at DePaul, Richard Beene at Colburn.Bassoons I have recorded on include Heckel #10058, Fox 601 #33375, Bell #30, Heckel #7000, Heckel #9498, Heckel 12112, and now Bell #234.In my personal life I enjoy disc golf, being healthy, and learning about new technology.

Oberlin has one of the top bassoon studios in the country for winning auditions, competitions, and graduate school placements, but I'm just as proud of all of the people who became writers, doctors, accountants, improvisers, visual artists, arts managers, chemists, and conductors!
